Beschreibung:

Glacial Kame Culture, Late Archaic Period, 3000-500 B.C. Paulding County, Ohio 4-7/16 inches Regal is an appropriate word to use in the description of this superb birdstone. For those who have studied birdstones, this example will always stand out in regards to line and form. And to make it truly exceptional, the creator chose the most attractive slate with dense, highly contrasting bands in which to execute his vision. The banding forms a concentric circle at precisely the top of the head and when viewing from above the banding radiates downward from there. The effect is similar to throwing a small pebble into a still pond. The condition is flawless. It was discovered near the Auglaize River east of Junction, Ohio in Paulding County. Garret Zuber retained this fine work of prehistoric art in his collection for several decades. Publications: Who’s Who in Indian Relics, Vol. 1, 1960, pg. 118 Ohio Archaeologist, Vol. 18, No. 1, January 1968, pg. 25 Ohio Archaeologist, Vol. 29 No. 1, 1979, Front Cover Prehistoric Art, (GIRS Birdstone Issue), Vol. 17, No. 4 and Vol. 18, No. 1, 1982/1983, pg. 27 Ohio Archaeologist, Vol. 50, No. 3, 2000, Front Cover Prehistoric American, Vol. 43, No. 4, 2009, (Birdstone Special Issue), Pg. 36 and 81 (8 o’clock) Collection History: Garret Zuber, Antwerp, Ohio Steve Fuller, Wooster, Ohio Ron Helman, Sydney, Ohio Provenance: From the Collection of Jan Sorgenfrei, Findlay, Ohio
