The paternal arms are those of the HUGHES family, Baronets of Bergholt, Suffolk, and the maternal arms of the DAMPIER family of Collingshay, Somerset. The blazon: a lion, rampant or (HUGHES) - emparlée - or, a lion rampant sable, on a chief gules a label of five points argent (DAMPIER); crest: a lion couchant or (HUGHES)
