An early brass and steel small striking table clock Probably French. Circa 1590 The iron movement with square-section architectural moulded pillars to each angle, the wheel trains pivoting in three flat iron uprights in the centre of the movement, the going train with long thin fusee and barrel now with chains, the wheels with four crossings terminating with a verge escapement with dumbell balance with hog's bristle-type regulation and later hairspirng, the strike train with similarly shaped long flat fusee and later chains, the wheel train with later countwheel planted on the back post and strike on a later bell atop the plates, the brass dial with engraved Roman chapter ring and floral spandrels, single steel hand with brass securing nut, the case designed as a miniature building with engraved brickwork decoration to the sides and back and tessellated roof pierced for sound and surmounted by a later brass finial 6½ in. (16.5 cm.) high
