An early 20th-Century English 18-inch diametter terrestrial library globe W. & A.K. Johnston, Edinburgh & London, c.1904 18 INCH TERRESTRIAL GLOBE by W. & A.K. JOHNSTON LIMITED Geographers [.....] Printers EDINBURGH and LONDON , made up of two sets of twelve chromolithographed split half-gores, the equatorial graduated in degrees, hours and minutes, the ecliptic, Greenwich meridian and three colures graduated in degrees, the ecliptic with sigils, the oceans showing currents, submarine telegraph cables, isothermic lines and an analemma COPYRIGHTED IN U.S.A. 1904 , the Antarctic with mostly projected coastline, the continents with nation states variously shaded and showing towns, cities, rivers and mountains, North Africa with caravan routes (largely rubbed with discolouration, old damage to South Pole), with a stamped polished-brass hour dial and meridian circle, the mahogany horizon with printed paper circle showing degrees of amplitude and azimuth, compass directions, days of the month and of the houses of the Zodiac, raised on three tapering square-section legs united by serpentine stretchers to the urn-shaped meridian support 46¼in. (117.5cm.) high
