AN ARCHAISTIC BLACK-SPECKLED WHITE JADE EWER LATE MING DYNASTY, 16TH-17TH CENTURY The body is well carved around the sides with a raised band of archaistic dragon scroll between rope-twist borders interrupted in front by a monster mask and at the opposite end by a strap handle incised with scrolls through which slithers a large chilong , its head emerging at the rim opposite a small chilong that has crawled from the top of the handle to the rim. Two dragons carved in low relief on either side below the rim are confronted below the spout, and the oblong pedestal foot is encircled by two rope-twist bands and has a border of incised key fret. The semi-translucent stone is of warm white color and suffused with black speckling. 6 7/8 in. (17.5 cm.) long, box, wood stand
