AN ARCHAIC BRONZE RITUAL WINE VESSEL, JUE LATE SHANG DYNASTY, LATE ANYANG PERIOD, 12TH CENTURY BC The vessel has a deep 'U'-shaped body that is supported on three blade form legs. The body is finely cast in low relief to the centre with a band comprising of two taotie masks. One mask is centered on a narrow vertical flange, and the other is on a pictorgram cast beneath the curved handle. The long channeled spout is opposite a raised point that forms the rim, which is surmounted by a pair of rectangular capped posts. The overall surface has a mottled milky-green patina. 7¾ in. (19.7 cm.) high
