AN ANTWERP HISTORICAL TAPESTRY Third quarter 17th Century, probably by Jan Frans Cornelissen, the designs attributed to Justus van Egmont Woven in wools and silks, depicting a scene from The Story of the Emperor Augustus , with armed solidiers fighting against men and women holding swords and stones, in the foreground a fallen man, within a wooded landscape, the sides with vases of flowers and a figure of War and Peace, the top with a central cabochon flanked by floral garlands, cut to top and bottom and with cut-out rectangular fields to each corner of the border, areas of reweaving and patching, with fragmentary inscription to the upper left corner 'VG' 115½ in. x 142 in. (293 cm. x 361 cm.)
