An American mahogany Two-Day Marine chronometer Movement with Unrecorded Form of Flat Rim Balance John Bliss & Co New York No. 2812; circa 1885 The silvered dial signed John Bliss & Co. New York. No. 2812 , Roman hour numerals, the outer minute chapter with Arabic five minute intermarkers 60-5-10 et seque , gold hour and minute hands, subsidiary up-and-down dial with gold hand, large subsidiary seconds dial with blued steel hand, Earnshaw escapement, flat cut rim bimetallic balance, the flat rim section being laminated steel above brass, the cross arm being laminated brass above steel, at the outer end of each semi-circular sector of the flat rim is mounted a short curved steel arc carrying a vertically mounted brass cylindrical heat compensation weight surmounted by a short perpendicular length of threaded brass rod onto which is screwed a larger diameter polished non-magnetic white metal disc, quarter mounted mean time screws, blued steel helical balance spring, brass bowl and gimbal 105 mm. dial diam.
