AN AKKADIAN GREEN STONE CYLINDER SEAL CIRCA 2300-2200 B.C. With two contest scenes, each with a bearded hero grappling with a lion, an inscription names the owner as "Lugaligi, scribe", 1 in. (2.5 cm.) high; another, mottled brown stone, a hero in contest with a bull, another hero and bull-man in contest with a lion, tree as a terminal, 13/8 in. (3.4 cm.) high; a large mottled pink and cream stone cylinder seal, with seated deity approached by five other deities, 15/8 in. (4 cm.) high; three of lapis lazuli with contest scenes; another, lapis, two facing figures and a tree; another, lapis, a seated god with suppliant goddess introducing a worshipper, crescent, ball-and-staff and vessel in the field, all 2300-2100 B.C., ¾ in. (2 cm.) high max.; a late Akkadian/Ur III lapis cylinder seal with seated goddess and worshipper in front with inscription naming the owner, 2200-2000 B.C., ¾ in. (2 cm.) high; an Ur III green stone cylinder seal, seated god with approaching Lamma goddess holding the arm of a worshipper behind, crescent above, inscription recut, circa 2100-2000 B.C., 16 in. (2.9 cm.) high; an Old Babylonian agate cylinder seal with similar scene, the god standing, inscribed "[A]bi-ida, son of Aliya", circa 2000-1800 B.C., .11/16 in. (1.7 cm.) high; another, shell, a seated goddess with approaching Lamma goddess and worshipper, inscribed "Shamash, Aya" (the sun-god and his consort), a mastiff below, circa 1900-1700 B.C., 16 in.
