First edition; Bound with Speech of Edmund Burke Esq. on American Taxation, April 19, 1774. London: printed for J. Dodsley, in Pall-Mall, 1775. First edition; And Plan offered by the Earl of Chatham, to the House of Lords, Entitled, a provisional act, for settling the troubles in America, and for asserting the supreme legislative authority and superintending power of Great Britain over the colonies. Which was rejected, and not suffered to lie upon the table. London: J. Almon, 1775. First edition. Modern black cloth. 10 1/2 x 7 7/8 inches (27 x 27.5 cm); [2], 65, [2] (the half-title bound at end); iv, 57, [1] pp; 14, [2] pp. The half-title of the first work signed "F. Maseres. May 25, 1775" and the subsequent title pages signed "F. Maseres" and some ink marginalia likely in his hand, ink and blind-stamps to title, spotting. An important association copy of two important speeches by American sympathizer, Edmund Burke The speech present here on American Taxation urges the crown to repeal the tax on tea (published January 1775) and the March 1775 speech urges a reconciliation with the colonies. From 1766-69 Francis Maseres was attorney general of the new British Province of Quebec and was involved in colonial affairs in Quebec after the revolution. C The New York City Bar Association
