(5 1/2 x 3 1/8 in.), contemporary Parisian olive goatskin, sides with triple gilt fillet enclosing a gilt-tooled center and cornerpiece design of leafy olive stems, central cartouche of two entwining stems forming an oval cartouche, corners with floral tools ending in branching stems, flat spine filled with gilt swirling leafy stems, g.e., probably from the atelier of Clovis Eve; lacking ties, spine slightly faded to brown, lower margin of title-leaf renewed, some minor light foxing or discoloration . First edition of this translation, RULED IN RED THROUGHOUT. Sold as a binding, not subject to return. A binding with nearly identical tooling, also on a work printed in 1588, is reproduced in Fairfax Murray French , I, opp. p. 46, no. 55.
