Almanach royal, anne [1765]. Paris: Le Breton, [1764]. 8 (189 x 124mm). French royal arms on title. Contemporary French red morocco gilt, sides stamped with a plaque by Dubuisson [cf. Gumuchian no. 258] and central arms of Ren-Charles de Maupeou [1698-1775, Olivier 2242, fer not shown], flower tool in spine compartments, gilt patterned endpapers, gilt edges (discreet restorations at corners and spine). Robert bookseller's ticket mounted on front flyleaf. The Gumuchian example was identified as 'A DU BUISSON PLAQUE OF THE GREATEST RARITY'; another example was in the Abbey sale (Sotheby's, 19 June 1967, lot 1613). Almanach royal, anne [1784]. Contemporary French red morocco gilt, sides with Dubuisson plaque [identical to lot 54] and central arms of Ren-Nicolas-Charles-Augustin de Maupeou [1714-1792, Olivier 2243, variant fer], fleurs-de-lis in spine compartments, gilt floral endpapers, gilt edges. Provenance : Edm Hermitte (bookplate). Almanach royal, anne [1776]. Paris: Le Breton, 1775]. 8 (215 x 142mm). French royal arms on title. Contemporary French red morocco gilt, sides with central arms of Armand-Thomas Hue de Miromesnil [1723-1796, Olivier 2311, variant fer] and small corner ornaments, flat spine in compartments with thistle tool, blue silk endpapers, gilt edges (light scratch on front cover, a little darkening). Ren-Charles de Maupeou held a succession of high offices, including premier prsident of Parlement; his son, Ren-Nicolas-Charles-Augustin, succeeded his father in that position in 1763. In 1771 he exiled Parlement for its attempts to control the power of the king and replaced it with a new one. Hue, a friend of Maupeou and premier prsident of the Parlement of Rouen, was among those exiled, but was fortunate enough to be recalled to power by his friend. (3)
