Contemporary French red morocco gilt, sides with elaborate plaque and central unidentified arms, fleurs-de-lis in spine compartments, blue silk endpapers, gilt edges (extremely light rubbing). A rare example of this plaque. The Abbey catalogue (Sotheby's, 19 June 1967, lot 1617) knew of only one other example; the Gumuchian collection also contained one example (no. 273).
