Albumen photograph, 4.25 x 3.5 in. sight, framed to approx. 6.375 x 5.5 in., featuring a portrait of five identified Union soldiers posed in front of a tent. An African American soldier also appears on the left of the image, however, he is unidentified. One additional soldier is just visible from behind the tent. Wooden frame back has penciled names of soldiers who appear in the picture. An accompanying transcription of those names along with the identification "Civil War Band / From Hoosick Falls" was taped to glass and appears to be of a later date. Transcribed names likely contain errors based on research in HDS. Identified soldiers appearing in the image most likely are as follows: Gustavus Foster, Rufus C. Holbrook, Chauncey R. Marsh, Durrane O. Abell, and Joseph H. Lottridge. Records indicate all five of these soldiers enlisted as musicians with the Vermont 2nd Infantry on 6/15/1861 and were discharged on 12/19/1861. Condition: Image not removed from frame for inspection. Top corners of image are clipped. Frame showing wear. Residue on glass from adhesive used to hold transcription to photo.
