Title: Album with approximately 220 real-photo postcards and 23 photographs Author: ** Place: Various places Publisher: Date: c.1909-1920 Description: Cloth-bound album with about 265 real-photo postcards and slightly larger photographs laid in, comprising 120 real-photo postcards of Seattle and environs, including Tacoma, several of ships in port, and a whole series from the Alaska-Pacific-Yukon exposition held in Seattle in the summer of 1909; 121 hand-colored real-photo Japanese postcards, without margins; 23 photographs mostly with typed captions on the verso, c.1917 around Hartford, CT by George C. Allen and a few of Southern California. Postcards are inserted into paper corner-tabs without adhesive (several tabs torn and photos laid in loose.) Overall album size is 9½x11". Very nice series of early Seattle postcards and of hand-colored Japanese postcards. The hand-coloring on the Japanese postcards is particularly bright and nicely preserved. The original collector may have had an especial interest in Japanese-American life; one of the more striking unusual postcards depicts a scene aboard the S.S. Shinano Maru of Japanese sailors practicing kendo. Lot Amendments Condition: Cloth binding a little worn, some paint stains on front cover; many postcards are loose from their paper tabs, those examined are blank on the versos; a couple of corner folds and one or two with light stains, but mostly about fine.
