Aix-en-Provenace: Jean Tholosan, 1624. 2 o (340 x 242 mm). Engraved title, city plan and 8 engraved plates (1 folding), and 7 engraved emblems, by JACQUES MARETZ (a few small repairs to title margin, folding plate with 2 long repaired tears). (Some spotting.) Contemporary limp vellum (some early ink scribblings on covers, hinges cracked). Provenance : Évêché de Moulins (inkstamps on engraved title). Chastueil-Gallaup records the entry of LOUIS XIII (1601-1643), King of France, into Aix-en- Provence on 3 November 1622. The engraved illustrations are the work of Jacques Maretz and include a very detailed plan of the city. The large folding plate shows an arch representing the city and five putti holding flags representing the five quarters of the city. The purpose of the festival is given in the text: "Since kings are the gods of the earth, their names should be continually adored by solemn festivals." At the end are emblematic scenes.
