Airship Chair. A Model 32 Lloyd Loom airship chair circa 1927, a style used on the R100, cinnabar red whicker with wide seat, the maker's plate missing, with four brass feet 82 cm high x 79cm wide, the seat 50 cm wide, together with a period photographic postcard showing a similar chair in situ (Quantity: 1) The Model 32 airship chair was produced by Lloyd Loom between 1927-1941. The distinctive cinnabar red was a type used on the R100 (although the history of this particular chair is unknown). The width of the seat was adapted to be wider than normal Lloyd Loom chairs of this period to accommodate thick fur worn at altitude and for this reason, never had a seat cushion. These chairs were often used by pilots during WWII but the design ceased production in 1941. For further reading please refer to Lloyd Loom woven furniture by Lee J. Curtis, page 131.
