Beschreibung:

Overall VF-NM. Lovely copies. #1 has small color chip at top spine and very light wear at top edge of cover; otherwise, both are essentially newsstand (head shop?) fresh. Somebody quick - slab these mags. Bobby London and Gary Hallgren covers. Art by London, Dan O'Neill, Ted Richards, Gary Hallgren. Provenance: Property from an Old Berkeley Hippie. "Although there was considerable empathy for their attack on Disney, who was, after all, an FBI stool pigeon, and a ruthless businessman who usurped the creations of his employees, some others in the underground saw the Air Pirates as troublemakers -- guilty of plagiarism and copyright violation. "'I have certain characters and they are my characters, and I know how I'd feel if someone used my characters,' said Trina Robbins. 'I'd be very mad.' "'It's like defining pornography, unfortunately. There is no satisfactory definition where to draw the line,' said Denis Kitchen. 'If Disney himself, or the Disney organization, was not able to protect the Mouse after all these years, how can any single artist be legally certain their work is protected? But basically the primary thing here is that the freedom to parody is not impaired.'" -Patrick Rosenkranz, Rebel Visions: The Underground Comix Revolution, 1963-1975 [Fantagraphics: 2002]. PBA Grading Guarantee: Any individual comic book lot (not group lots) graded by PBA is guaranteed to match CGC grading. If the buyer chooses to have the comic CGC certified and that certification is lower than PBA’s, the lot may be returned for a full refund of the sales price (hammer price plus buyer’s premium). See terms and conditions for details. Consignments Accepted for PBA's Next Comic Book Auction. Golden Age, Silver Age, Pre-Code, Original Art, Interesting Ephemera Sought. Contact [email protected] for details. PBA COMICS March 26th Comic Book Sale catalogues available. Supplies Limited. Softcover catalogues limited to 200 copies ($45 + $5 postage/handling). Hardcovers limited to 26 lettered copies, dust jackets, special limitation plates ($150). Contact [email protected] .
