Beschreibung:

AFTER THE ANTIQUE, AN ITALIAN MARBLE MODEL OF A SANDALLED FOOT EARLY 20TH CENTURY 21cm high, 39cm wide Provenance: The Simon Neal Collection This monumental sandalled foot was clearly inspired by the disembodied fragments of monumental statues surviving from antiquity, like those belonging to a statue of the Emperor Constantine in the courtyard of the Capitoline museum in Rome, or the sandalled foot at Chatsworth, brought back by the 6th Duke of Devonshire in 1839, whose corresponding pair was fairly recently located in the Pergamon Museum in Berlin. Condition Report: Foot bears the marks, knocks, scratches, abrasions and surface deposits consistent with age. Some old chips and cracks. Foot has been broken in half and repaired - see images. A thick band of cement/filler can be seen along the line of repair. Neatly executed old glued repair made to crack which runs through three of the toes and into the sandal (see images). Please refer to additional images for visual reference to condition. Condition Report Disclaimer
