Advertising poster for a screening of the film "Land of Promise" at the "Armon Theater" [the "Armon" cinema in Haifa]. No printer details, [November, 1935]. Hebrew and some English. The film "Land of Promise" was produced in 1935 by Keren Hayesod and intended for distribution abroad as fund-raising propaganda for settlement in Palestine. The film was directed and edited by Yehuda Helman. The songs were composed by Nathan Alterman and Daniel Sambursky. The film was first screened in Berlin in May 1935 by the Zionist Organization in Germany. The Nazi authorities allowed it to be screened for Jews only, yet the film gained popularity among a non-Jewish audience as well. Later it was shown in the U.S., Palestine and Britain. In August 1935 the film won first prize for documentary films at the international film festival in Venice. It was distributed by Keren Hayesod until the 1950s, assisting the organization in collecting many donations from around the world. 89X63.5 cm. Good condition. Folding marks and creases.
