(5 11/16 x 3 9/16 in.), red morocco, covers gilt-panelled, spine gilt, turn-ins gilt, edges marbled and gilt, by BAUZONNET-TRAUTZ, head of spine and corners slightly scuffed, washed and pressed . Collation: A-I8. 72 leaves. Roman type, shoulder notes in italic, criblé and white floriated initials. First edition in French of the romance of Leucippe and Clitophon. RARE (not in BM/STC French , Adams, Rothschild, BN Catalogue des Imprimés or NUC). Brunet I, 37. Provenance : Nineteenth-century annotations on title ( washed ) -- Gustave Chartener, bookplate (sale, 4-9 May 1885).
