ABBOTT, BERENICE Doorway 16-18 Charles Street. Gelatin silver print, original negative 1938; early printing with Federal Art Project stamp on print verso, with details of title, place, negative number, code, and date completed in pencil (the written date is June 1, 1938). Image 9 1/8 x 7 1/2 inches (23 x 19 cm). The image was originally mounted and there was some loss to the paper of the verso, presumably when it was lifted. There is also a stain to the obverse from the adhesive. None of this affects the image itself. From the date, it is possible that this was initially prepared for the "East Side West Side" exhibition of photography that was sponsored by the W.P.A. in 1938.
