A WOOL AND SILK ON LINEN NEEDLEWORK SAMPLER PENNSYLVANIA, DATED 1831 Worked in red, green, pink, black, yellow, blue, white, orange and grey wool and silk cross stitched threads in three horizontal registers, the top comprised of stylized flowers, birds, a ship and a house above a second band formed by an enclosed verse reading, "For I Know That My Redeemer Liveth And That He Shall Stand At The latter Day UP on The Earth And Though After My Skin Worms Destroy This Body Yet, In My Flesh Shall I See God Whom I Shall See For Myself And Mine Eyes Shall Behold And Not another//My Flying Yearr [sic] Time Urger [sic] On What Human Must Decay My Friends My Young Companions gone Can I expect to Stay Can I exemption Plead When death Projects His awful Dart, Can Medecines .... Prolong My Breath or Virtue Shield My Hart//Job xix 25/ Alice eather Work Aged 13 1831" over a third horizontal register comprised of stylized flowers, birds, a cornucopia, a house, and a putto, the whole enclosed by a meandering border of flowers and foliage--24¼in. x 24¼in.
