A WELL-MODELED SANCAI-GLAZED POTTERY FIGURE OF A GUARDIAN TANG DYNASTY Standing in a threatening posture atop a recumbent bullock raised on a rockwork base, with right hand resting on his hip, the left hand forming a hollow fist to hold a spear, wearing layered armor and a breastplate bound by cords, the dragon-head epaulets at the shoulders with curved horns, glazed all over in green, amber and cream, the head unglazed and crisply molded with mouth open in a challenging cry below scowled brows and hair drawn up into a topknot, traces of red pigment, areas of green glaze on bull now degraded to a gold iridescence, broken through the middle and repaired--35 1/2 in. (90.2cm.) high
