THE CENTREPIECE MARK OF ELKINGTON, 1858, THE DESSERT STANDS APPARENTLY UNMARKED 20TH CENTURY
A VICTORIAN SILVER-PLATED CENTREPIECE AND TWO ASSOCIATED DESSERT STANDS THE CENTREPIECE MARK OF ELKINGTON, 1858, THE DESSERT STANDS APPARENTLY UNMARKED 20TH CENTURY The trefoil base with foliage border, supporting three cast figures, depicting a monk, a fish seller and a game hunter, with central trefoil base wrapped with fruiting grapevines, with foliage and arch gallery, supporting cut glass bowl, applied with two plaques, each engraved with an inscription, the dessert stands each cast with foliage and with a putto, with an iron-bound oak trunk the centrepiece 24½ in. (62 cm.) high excluding glass bowl The inscriptions read ' PRESENTED TO William Johnson Esq r AS A TOKEN OF RESPECT AND ESTEEM by the Workpeople in the employ of Mess r s Richard Johnson and Brother MANCESTER January 28 1859 ' and W'Worshipful Company of Tinplate Workers ALIAS WIREWORKERS OF THE CITY OF LONDON PRESENTED BY Arthur Lawrence Johnson, M.A. Grandson of William Johnson Both Wireworkers With his Daughter Eleanor Morton Johnson FREEMAN OF THE COMPANY To commemorate his Mastership 1941-1942' (3)
