Circa 1870 The silvered dial signed John Poole Maker to the Admiralty, Fenchurch St. London 2321 , gold hour, minute and up/down hands, blued steel seconds hand, the movement with lightly spotted plates, Earnshaw spring detent escapement with adjustment to foot, blued steel helical balance spring, cut bimetallic balance with Poole's auxilliary and 'cut' circular heat compensation weights, brass bowl numbered 2321 , the three tier rosewood box with brass stringing and quarter edging, later bone plaque to the front and vacant brass cartouche to the top lid, flush-fitted brass handles to the sides (the inside of the bezel is scratched John Poole ). 100mm. dial diameter; 175mm. square box
