A Victorian mahogany eight-day marine chronometer James McCabe, London, No. 443. Circa 1815 The engraved silvered dial signed James McCabe, Royal Exchange, London, No.443 , gold spade hands, Roman and Arabic chapter ring, large diameter subsidiary seconds ring at VI with blued steel hand, up/down sector calibrated 0-7, the movement with well spotted plates, the top plate engraved Jas. McCabe Royal Exchange London No. 443 , the main-frame assembly carrying the fusee, barrel and centre wheel, the sub-frame assembly carrying the remainder of the train, Earnshaw-type spring detent escapement with cut bi-metallic Pennington-type balance with blued steel helical spring, jewelled locking stone (replaced detent), brass bowl and gimbal, the brass-bound three-tier mahogany box with drop handles to the sides 8 in. (20.5 cm.) sq. the box
