A Victorian gilt-metal giant chronometer carriage timepiece of Exhibition quality Sewill, Liverpool, Glasgow and London; fourth quarter 19th century The architectural case with beaded concave moulding to the rectangular plinth supporting reeded ¾-columns on faceted plinths, dentilled freize to the top surmounted by a reeded handle and centred by a large bevelled viewing glass, similar glasses to the sides and rear door, gilt-metal frame to the engine turned gilt dial mask centred by a white enamel Roman chapter disc signed Sewill Maker to the Royal Navy Liverpool, Glasgow & London , recessed subsidiary seconds ring at XII, blued steel spade hands, the dial feet secured by means of blued steel screws entered from the sides of the front-plate, the massive chain fusee movement with four large double-screwed pillars, Harrison's maintaining power, the chronometer platform of exhibition quality with substantial balance cock to the cut bimetallic compensated balance with diamond endstone and blued helical spring, frosted gilt platform for the spring detent escapement, jewelled elaborate endcaps to the contrate, brass and copper guard sleeves to the wind and hand-set squares on the back-plate, the movement secured with two large screws through the case base-plate 9¼ ins (23.5 cm) high
