A VERY RARE ZOOMORPHIC BRONZE LAMP, YANZU DENG QIN/EARLY WESTERN HAN DYNASTY, LATE 3RD CENTURY BC The support cast in the shape of a headless bird standing on a single leg rising from a large taloned foot supported on a barbed quatrefoil base, the curved breast of the slender abstract body cast in relief with a faceted baluster motif terminating in a 'tongue' and the curved wings coiled at the top before continuing into a curled tail, all surmounted by a ring-shaped bowl with beveled lower edge to the upright sides, the flat base of the interior cast with four vertical spikes, with a smooth mottled patina and some malachite encrustation 18 5/8 in. (47.3 cm.) high
