A very rare Worcester blue and white Floral Swag, Ribbon and Scroll pattern coffee can, c.1755, painted with wispy floral swags tied by ribbons at each end with a scroll between, with a diaper and floral band around the foot, of 'scratch cross' type with an incised line inside foot rim, 6.3cm high, two rim chips with short hairline cracks Estimate £1,500-2,000 Literature: see Branyan, French and J. Sandon, Worcester Blue & White Porcelain 1751-1790 New Edition, Barrie & Jenkins, 1989, illustration I.E.51, p 285. At the time this book was published only four examples of this very rare design were known; one in the Dyson Perrins Museum lacking the lower border and a second in the Bristol City Museum and Art Gallery with a lower border close to no. 71 in the book. This example has a lower band matching the no. 70 border design in the book. There is a 3mm x 4mm chip to the exterior of the rim with an associated short hairline crack measuring 9mm, there is a shallow glaze chip to the inside of the rim measuring 2mm x 2mm with an associated short hairline crack measuring 6mm. Typical minor glaze imperfections otherwise in good condition with no restoration.
