Beschreibung:

A VERY RARE SET OF THE FIRST EDITION OF A CRITICAL INQUIRY INTO ANTIENT ARMOUR BY SAMUEL RUSH MEYRICK LONDON, 1824 A Critical Inquiry into Antient Armour As It Existed in Europe but Particularly in England from the Norman Conquest to Charles II. 3 volumes, Imperial folio. London, Robert Jennings. Volume I, 206pp., plates I-XXX, 8 line drawings, remaining plates colour (Riling appears to be wrong in the count of 7 line drawings); Volume II, 297pp., plates XXXI-LXVI, 1 line drawing, remaining plates colour (Riling appears to be wrong here as he notes no line drawings); Volume III, 147pp., plates LXVII-LXXX, 1 line drawing, remaining are colour. This scarce first edition is rarely found with all original plates intact as most were broken up for framing. All three volumes with original boards and spine covers detached but present, text body remains tight. See Riling, Ray, Guns and Shooting: a Bibliography , A Gun Room Library Book, Greenburg, New York, 1951. Page 58, Riling No. 406.
