A VERY RARE PAINTED AND GOLD-DECORATED RED POTTERY FIGURE OF A COURTIER KNEELING IN OBEISANCE Tang Dynasty The male courtier well modeled in the unusual posture of kneeling in obeisance with hands clasped beneath his slightly turned head, wearing long pinkish-orange robes with foliate and gold foil borders, the pleated hem and full sleeves falling in graceful folds onto the base, the broad sash tied around the waist hung in back with long cords tied in bows and centered by a bi disc before it widens into a fringe at the ends, the face modeled with full cheeks and small features below a tall court hat pierced for the insertion of a hat pin, traces of pinkish-orange, pale green, pink, black and white pigment 21in.
