A VERY RARE DATED SINO-TIBETAN LACQUERED WOOD FIGURE OF TSONG KAPA DATED KANGXI GENGSHEN YEAR, FOURTH MONTH, EIGHTH DAY, CORRESPONDING TO 1680 AND OF THE PERIOD The figure seated atop an elaborate beaded double-lotus stand with legs in dhyanasana , his hands in dharmacakramudra , with robes with beaded hems overlapping at the chest and falling in thin folds over his waist and legs, the face with a benign expression below a pointed flapped cap with foliate elements issuing from the cord held in his hands, extensive gilding and fine detail on the face remain, the base encircled by a band of lanca and Chinese script the reverse dated, the figure identified as Bao Jian lama, the reincarnation of Wenshushili Pusa or Manjusri (minor losses to base, several fingers restuck)-- 30 1/2 in. (77.5cm.) high
