The gun with browned damascus twist sighted barrels signed in full along the rib, case-hardened patent breeches engraved 'Smith's Patent' within a platinum-lined rectangle at the centre and each with platinum plug, foliate engraved case-hardened tang involving a snipe in a circle, serial numbered case-hardened rounded locks each signed in full and engraved with foliate scrollwork involving snipe in a landscape within an oval on the left and a pheasant in a landscape within an oval on the right, case-hardened hammers each engraved with characteristic scaled design and with blued detachable nose, lacquered figured half-stock with chequered grip, blued steel mounts engraved with scrolling foliage and comprising butt-plate with a partridge in a landscape within an oval on the tang, trigger-guard with a pointer in a landscape on the bow, trigger-plate with pineapple-shaped finial, rear ramrod-pipe en suite, vacant silver escutcheon and barrel-bolt escutcheons, and original brass-mounted ramrod; the rifle with browned damascus twist octagonal sighted barrel signed in full and rifled with eight grooves, case-hardened foliate engraved breech inscribed 'Smith's Patent' and with platinum plug, foliate scroll engraved tang (broken), lock inhabited by a prone hind, lacquered half-stock of striped maple, foliate scroll engraved mounts including butt-plate involving a lion's head within a circle on the tang and all en suite with the gun, vacant silver escutcheon and barrel-bolt escutcheons, horn fore-end cap, sling mounts, and original horn-tipped ramrod, and both in fine condition: in their lined and fitted mahogany case (minor exterior damage) with full accessories including G.&J.W. Hawksley white-metal mounted powder-flask with leather-covered body, brass-mounted rifle flask with leather-covered body and nozzle with sprung tap, a Dixon & Sons patent double leather shot-belt with 'Irish' chargers, a shot-flask with bag-shaped leather body, a nipple wrench for Smith's Patent 'Imperial' caps, a tubular brass powder and shot measure, a mainspring clamp, steel bullet moulds and other items including an unopened tin, possibly containing a large quantity of Smith's Patent 'Imperial' caps, the interior of the lid with maker's trade label for 1830-1845, the exterior with flush-fitting brass carrying handle centred on a vacant circular brass escutcheon, London proof marks 74.8 cm. barrels and 64.4 cm. barrel
