With two-stage barrel lightly belled at the muzzle with a single narrow central raised rib on the forward section and four similar ribs on the breech section, stamped 'Coma' of Ripoll (Neue Støckel 189) on top of the rear of the breech and fitted with silver fore-sight and brass-lined touch-hole, border engraved rectangular tang, large lock retained by three side-nails, with shaped moulded border and engraved with foliated scrollwork, terminating, on the cock, in a monster-head, the inner surface of the jaws cut with a geometric design, the front of the drop-shaped steel engraved with foliated scrolls surmounted by a stylised fleur-de-lys and signed 'Dvlachs' (sic), moulded walnut full stock in the French manner, carved in relief with foliage behind the barrel tang and with foliage, fruit-bearing tendrils and a monster-head between the front of the lock and the rear ramrod-pipe, the butt inlaid with silver panels retained by silver nails and finely pierced and engraved with elaborate patterns of interlaced foliated scrollwork involving, on the sides, flowers, grotesques, putti, and a basket of fruit, all surmounted by a bird, the side-plate en suite and involving two cherubs supporting an oval cartouche charged with a fleur-de-lys, the escutcheon set above a similarly pierced and engraved panel supported by lions, surmounted by a ducal coronet, and charged with the royal arms of France beneath a label, cast and chased silver mounts, the butt-cap decorated with foliated scrollwork and two putti holding a ribbon signed 'Quintana', all on a punched ground, the long two-piece tang chased in low relief with a martial trophy enclosing an oval cartouche charged with the royal arms of France surmounted by a ducal coronet, the bow of the trigger-guard with raised circular cartouche engraved with a fleur-de-lys (forward trigger-guard finial replaced), four turned and faceted silver-ramrod pipes, carved horn fore-end cap with fluted silver band at its rear, and later wooden ramrod, in very fine condition overall 46¾ in. (118.7 cm.) barrel
