A VERY FINE AND LARGE CYLINDRICAL SATSUMA VASE BY KINKOZAN, MEIJI Catalog Number: AB0319-0132 Satsuma ceramic Japan, Meiji period Of cylindrical form, depicting the very first blooming flowers, picked by a courtly lady and her boy, in a barren winter landscape, with many butterflies swarming around. The setup is very interesting, as there are many different borders – gilt rim, coffee-ground border at the top and bottom, and an ‘archaistic band’ border surrounding the main picture, with a finely painted picturesque scene. The flowers and butterflies extend from one border to the other in some areas, which make them appear fully three-dimensional. The robes of the lady and boy adorned with rich colors and gold. Signed Kinkozan tsukuru on an impressed seal at the base, and a painted seal in the central depiction. Dimensions: HEIGHT 25.2 CM Condition: One large hairline running and related chips running along an entire vertical side of the vase, otherwise good condition – not restored Provenance: Galerie Zacke archive
