A VENETIAN SCHIAVONA 17TH CENTURY With flat double-edged blade with a short fuller on each side struck with a stylised 'S', characteristic iron basket-hilt of flattened bars, one with faint struck mark (possibly the Venetian winged lion), inner thumb-ring, short straight rear-quillon, pierced shield-shaped iron pommel with central boss on each side, and original leather-covered wooden grip with spiral binding (iron parts discoloured throughout) 33½in. (85.1cm.) blade
