Narrow, straight 29 inch double edged blade with 11 inch panel etched with leafy branches; one side with fouled anchor, the other with rectangular panel marked W.H. Horstmann/& Sons/Philadelphia. Brass hilt, the scrolling guard molded with stylized florals, the front side pierced with three holes, probably for an applique, now missing; simple ferrule; pistolgrip pommel molded with leafage; attachments for chain guard have been removed. Reeded bone grip. Brass two-ring scabbard with frog stud and small engraved panels of leafage, reverse stamped Horstmann. Condition: Blade with grey metal showing minor spotting and generally clear decoration. Hilt with dark patina. Grip with very minor chipping. Scabbard with few minor dents and missing screw for throat.
