A tiger skin rug, head mounted and on red felt backing, Panthera tigris, circa 1911, 286cm long (nose to tail), 198cm wide (paw to paw) Provenance: Pen Moel near Chepstow Sir Holburt Waring, 1st Bart., went to India and Nepal in 1911 to operate on Sir Baber Shamsher Jang Bahadur Rana (1888 -1960), second son of Maharaja Sir Chandra Shamsher Rana, hereditary Prime Minister of Nepal. He was a good shot and so it can be presumed that he may have 'bagged' this tiger himself in Nepal. Various other items from this trip have been offered through Dreweatts auctions including contents from Pen Moel, some presented to him by Sir Baber Rana.
