† (From the Curious to the Extraordinary, 6th May 2021) A TAXIDERMY SHOULDER MOUNT OF A STRIPED UNICORN A TAXIDERMY SHOULDER MOUNT OF A STRIPED UNICORN Equus Quagga, 144cm from tip of horn to wall Please note this lot is subject to VAT on the hammer price at 20%. Provenance: Viktor Wynd’s Museum, London. The Viktor Wynd Museum of Curiosities, Fine Art & UnNatural History is a contemporary reinterpretation of a Pre-Enlightenment Wunderkabinett or Cabinet of Curiosities. It is the creation of artist and writer Viktor Wynd, who has just opened a Falmouth branch of his museum inside the National Maritime Museum. His most recent book 'The UnNatural History Museum' was published by Prestel in 2020. Wynd says "I created this for the opening of the museum in 2015, sometimes visitors tell me Unicorn’s aren’t striped, but under close examination it turns out that they haven’t seen a real one before, whereas I, of course, have – this one, I tell them, lived for over 100s years in the park of a Ruritanian Prince, and was an absolute darling, beloved by all, and donated to the museum on it’s death".
