A SUPERB IMPERIAL CLOSIONNE ENAMEL ‘TAOTIE’ FANGDING-FORM CENSER AND COVER, AND A CHAMPLEVE STAND QIANLONG PERIOD (1736-1795) The large censer is superbly cast in the form of an archaic bronze fangding, each side is decorated with a taotie mask on a ground of scrolling lotus sprays, divided in the centre and at the corners with gilt-bronze vertical flanges, all raised above four cabriole legs emerging from lions masks. The rectangular domed cover has a gilt-bronze reticulated panel on each side with three bats flying amid clouds, below a finely cast finial in the form of a lion with one front paw on a brocade ball. The shaped champlevé stand is decorated with lotus scrolls on the sides and the top. Censer and cover: 18 ¼ in. (46.5 cm.) high Overall with stand: 21 1/8 in.
