Upon request, Louis Cartier made a special watch for his friend Alberto Santos-Dumont in 1904. As an inventor and aviator, Alberto needed a timekeeper he could check without taking his hands off the controls of his early aircraft. Alberto's celebrity status made the men's wristwatch a fashion icon overnight, and wrote the Cartier Santos into the history books. Most recently, there was the Santos 100 collection. Launched in 2004 to commemorate the centennial anniversary of Louis Cartier making a wristwatch for his pioneering friend.
