A square piano by Clementi, London, 1823 The rosewood case with rounded front corners, profusely inlaid with brass foliate patterns, dancing maidens with musicians, and ‘Pan’ characters on the rounded corners. Raised on six spiral turned and reeded legs with engraved brass collars and castors, having three inlaid drawers between the front pairs of legs. The rosewood nameboard with two pierced panels, profusely inlaid in brass and inscribed: CLEMENTI & COMPY, 26 Cheapside, London. The six and a half octave keyboard CC–f4 with ivory naturals and ebony accidentals. Double action with mop-stick over-dampers and ‘bridge of harmonic swell and reverberation’, operated by two pedals. The inner cover of pine with tooled red leather. Serial numbers 14000 and 18296. Width 184cm, depth 68cm, case height including lid and leg blocks 37cm.
