A Square piano by Broadwood, London, circa 1824 The cross-banded mahogany case with rounded front corners and inlaid with ebony. Beaded moulding above the skirting, two drawers under it. Raised on six turned and reeded legs. The nameboard veneered in rosewood with foliate brass inlay and two pierced panels of brass. The boxwood plaque inscribed: John Broadwood & Sons, Makers to His Majesty & the Princesses, Great Pulteney Street, Golden Square, London. The five and a half octave keyboard FF–c4 with ivory naturals and ebony accidentals. Double action with mop-stick over-dampers controlled by the original pedal. Soundboard with divided bridge. Green painted internal cover of pine with the serial number on the underside. Serial number 29746 Width 174cm, depth 66.5cm, case height including lid and leg blocks 35.5cm.
