A SPECTACULAR SUITE OF ANTIQUE COIN AND DIAMOND JEWELRY, BY MASSONI Designed as seven pavé-set diamond shield-shaped plaques, the front suspending three similar plaques, each centering on an antique gold coin depicting a Roman Emperor, joined by baguette an circular-cut diamond links; with ear pendants en suite, mounted in 18K gold and platinum, necklace 17 ins. Signed Massoni In the 2nd century A.D., Roman historian Gaius Suetonius Tranquillus' wrote The Twelve Caesars, a work which covered the lives of the Roman emporers from 44 B.C. to 96 A.D. The coinage of this period in history is the most avidly collected in the entire Roman series. This suite by Massoni is set with twelve gold aurii -- antique coins, each depicting one of these twelve Ceasars. In the necklace: Galba, reverse depicting Virtus, ruled for 7 months from 68 - 69 AD Titus, the reverse depicting a throne with a thunderbolt, ruled from 79 - 81 A.D. Augustus, the reverse depicting a triumphal arch, ruled from 27 B.C. - 14 A.D. Domitian, the reverse depicting Minerva, ruled from 81 - 96 A.D. Vespasian, the reverse depicting Pax, ruled from 69 - 79 A.D. Nero, the reverse depicting Jupiter, ruled from 54 - 68 A.D. Otho, the reverse depicting Pax, ruled for 3 months in 69 A.D. Julius Caesar the front depicting the veiled head of Pietas, the reverse depicting sacrificial implements, ruled 44 B.C. Tiberius, the reverse depicting Pax, ruled from 14 - 37 A.D.
