A SINGLE CYLINDER TABLE ENGINE by J. Stringfellow, circa 1835, the brass bound mahogany cylinder is 1¼in bore by 2½in stroke with integrally cast steam passage and single piece valve chest. The flywheel has "S" spokes and the cast iron bed has mouldings supporting the main single-throw crankshaft pedestals and four decorated entablature columns. Finished in green and polished brightwork, mahogany plinth, 21¼in (54cm) high, 14¼in (36cm) wide Fußnoten Described as one of his "Industrial Engines" the engine is illustrated in "An Ancient Air" by Harold Penrose, the most comprehensive biography of the Victorian aeronautical pioneer, John Stringfellow of Chard (1799-1883).
