Beschreibung:

A SINGLE CYLINDER INVERTED VERTICAL WORKSHOP ENGINE, built by E S Hindley and Sons Makers, Bourton, Dorset, England, circa 1890, the cylinder is 4in bore x 6in stroke, has draincock holes, steel cladding, an inlet manifold and a 3/4in Pickering governor, driven from a pulley wheel on the crankshaft. The crosshead runs in marine-style guides integrally cast with the frame. A relatively undecorated connecting rod drives a forged crank with valve and feed pump eccentrics and straight spoked flywheel. Unique to Hindley the crankshaft bearing brasses are held up into the frame by tapered wedges drawn by nuts with locking nuts. An inclined feedpump is bolted to a bracket integrally cast with the bed. Finished in red and black with polished brightwork, 57½in (146cm) high, 26½in (67.3cm) wide Fußnoten Hindley made a surprisingly wide range of both engines and general equipment much in the way that Taskers of Andover, Ferrabee and Tickle. The engines were a clever design that could be built extremely cheaply and they were supplied both as installed units or portable engines mounted on a trolley with a vertical multi-tube boiler. Later Tickle engines incorporated a governor with its valve housing integrally cast with the cylinder cover.
