A SILVER-PLATED PLAQUETTE, of rectangular form, commemorating the fiftieth wedding anniversary of Baron George and Sophie von Rosenthal in Amsterdam on the third of June 1907, the obverse decorated with the portraits of the couple, dated on the exergue 1857.3.juni.1907 , the reverse featuring a burning altar beneath an oaktree, a beehive, a cornucopia and books, in the background a view on Amsterdam, inscribed in German Zur Erinnerung an Baron George und Sophie von Rosenthal Amsterdam 1907 , signed on both sides by the maker H. Kautsch, fitted in a rectangular leather mounted wooden box with red velvet lining, Amsterdam, 1907 8.9 x 9.8 cm Baron Rosenthal was born in Hannover 1828. He settled in Amsterdam in 1859, where he started a banking-house. He donated to the Municipality of Amsterdam the valuable Bibliotheca Rosenthaliana which belonged to his father Rabbi Leser Rosenthal, a bibliophile and bibliographer, founded the Spinoza house and was member of the board of the society of the Amsterdam University.
