A CASED SET OF THREE GEORGE III RECTANGULAR BALUSTER SILVER TEA CADDIES PIERRE GILLOIS LONDON 1768 The pull off covers with bud finials and engraved with a crest, the bodies engraved with an armorial, a monogram beneath, a gadrooned and foliate border, on four scroll feet 15cm (6in) high, two 8cm (3in) wide, one 9cm (3 1/2in) wide 930g (29.9 oz) The arms for Thomas MASTER (1744-1823) of Abbey House, Cirencester Gloucestershire and his wife Mary Napper DUTTON (1748-1819) of Sherburne Gloucester. They were married in 1769 and the date of assay of 1768 would suggest that the tea caddies were marriage pieces. The MASTER family were originally of Kent and many of the earlier generations in Gloucestershire were MPs for Cirencester. Thomas MASTER was the MP for Cirencester 1784-1796. Thomas MASTER was the eldest son and heir of Thomas MASTER (1717-1749) MP of Abbey House, Cirencester Gloucestershire by Elizabeth Chester CANN (1721-1781) the daughter of William CANN 3rd Baronet Cann of Compton Greenfield, Gloucestershire. Mary Naper DUTTON was the daughter of James Lenox DUTTON formerly NAPER by his second wife Jane BOND whom he married in 1746, and he in turn was the son of James NAPER and Ann DUTTON. Notably Mary was the sister of James Naper DUTTON (1744-1820) who was later in 1784 created 1st Baron Sherborne.
