A set of four Edwardian Britannia standard silver footed dishes by Arthur Carter London 1906, in Carolean style, circular with the interiors chased as flowerheads centred by roundels engraved with an armorial, on plain spreading circular bases, 20cm (8in) diameter, 1769g (56.9 oz) The roundels are for BENTINCK quartering CAVENDISH. The surname Cavendish-Bentinck was authorised by Royal licence on the 5th October 1801 and used by that extended family which included the Barons Bolsover (from 1880) and the existing Earls of Portland, who became Dukes of Portland (created in 1716 extinct 1990). The Earldom of Portland is still extant.
